Home remedies to cure cough in kids

Cough among babies is quite common and it may be contagious. The frequency of toddlers falling ill generally increases as they start with the play school. The easiest way is switching to over-the-counter drugs, but it may have long term side-effects. The trusted home remedies are the best way to treat these tiny patients. Here are some of the remedies to ease cough among toddlers.

Honey

Honey has antibacterial properties that will soothe the throat and help kids relax during continuous cough. Give half a spoon of honey before bedtime and see the wonders. You may add a few drops of ginger juice in honey. Honey should not be given to kids under 1 year.

Tulsi

Indian tulsi has amazing medicinal powers and it is easily available in your garden. Take 6-10 tulsi leaves and wash them. Boil 250 ml of water and add these leaves and let it boil for 5 minutes. This syrup is very effective for cough. Give this water to the toddlers 5-6 times a day. Tulsi is also proved to enhance immunity and prepare the little ones to fight against cold and cough.

Eucalyptus oil

Also known as nilgiri oil helps to reduce congestion and hence cure cough. Put a few drops of essential oil on a handkerchief and place it near to your child while sleeping. This will ease breathing and relax the child from continuous cough. You can apple few drops on chest and forehead.

Turmeric milk

Turmeric is proven to boost immune system. Mix half a spoon of turmeric in hot milk and little honey. Give this milk to your kids during bed time or in breakfast. This is the oldest and proven formula to cure viral infections in kids.

Hot soups

Too much of cough can cause loss of appetite in kids. Giving hot soups will relax their throat and provide energy as well. Hot chicken soup, tomato soup, spinach and broccoli soups are very good to give to kids. These yummy soups are filling and soothe throat during cough.
